Coronavirus Pandemic: India shows decline in daily COVID-19 spike in October

Oct. 5, 2020, 10:44 a.m.

New Delhi: The number of coronavirus infections in the country is increasing exponentially with the COVID-19 virus claiming thousands of new victims every day.

The country is battling with a worrisome situation in terms of the increasing number of coronavirus cases. The situation is all the more alarming as medicines and vaccines for the COVID-19 virus are yet to be found.

Despite a lengthy lockdown which was intended to curb the COVID-19 virus, the coronavirus pandemic is getting more serious with each passing day.

The number of coronavirus infections is rising at an alarming rate in India with thousands falling victim to the COVID-19 virus every day.

The situation has become so dangerous that the number of coronavirus patients is rising by almost 1,00,000 every day and daily spikes of over 50,000 COVID-19 infections are coming to light for since July 30.

As Unlock 4 unfolds, the coronavirus pandemic is assuming even more alarming proportions with the number of COVID-19 infections rising by leaps and bounds.

With Unlock 5 coming up from October 15, the reopening of movie theaters, swimming pools and educational institutions are set to be allowed. It is feared in several quarters that this may help in the transmission of the COVID-19 virus and lead to a spike in the number of coronavirus cases.

In terms of the daily rise in the number of COVID-19 cases is concerned, India has now surpassed even the United States, which has been the worst affected by the coronavirus pandemic among the major countries.

The coronavirus pandemic in India currently seems to be at its worst, as the country’s trajectory of daily COVID-19 cases continued to be the highest-ever recorded globally since the start of the health crisis in December 2019.

After showing a decline for four consecutive days in the middle of last month, the coronavirus pandemic had registered an increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases over the past couple of weeks.

However, the daily rise in the number of new COVID-19 cases have shown a marked decline over the opening week of October while the number of patients who have recovered from the coronavirus pandemic has increased.

With a spike of 74,442 coronavirus cases and 903 deaths in 24 hours, India’s tally on Monday mounted to 66,23,816 cases.

Though the cases are increasing, the recovery rate is 84.34 per cent in India which is less that Chile that has over 92 per cent cure rate, while US that tops the Corona cases in the world has around 33 per cent recovery rate.

The fatality rate has come down to 1.55 per cent, the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. Of the 20 worst affected nations, India has the lowest mortality rate, while Mexico has the highest of 10.4 per cent and the UK next at 8.8 per cent, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Out of the total cases, 9,34,427 are currently active, 55,86,703 have been discharged, while 1,02,685 lost the battle against the viral disease.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 14,43,409 cases, including 38,084 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

According to the data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India conducted 9,89,860 sample tests in a single day on Sunday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 7,99,82,394.
