Amritsar (Punjab): At least six patients, 5 of whom were coronavirus infected, died due to lack of oxygen at a private hospital in Amritsar, Punjab, early on Saturday.
Family members of the victims said that oxygen was not flowing on the ventilator at Neelkanth Multispeciality Hospital, which led to their deaths.
After late night on Friday, they were informed by the hospital authorities that the supply of oxygen from the government was running low and they should make arrangements for it.
A doctor at the hospital informed the media that he had expressed concern to the district authorities several times about refill of medical oxygen cylinders and exhausting its supply.
“We were told by a nodal officer of the health department that the supply of oxygen is the priority of government hospitals. After this the demand of private hospitals will be met,” he said.
There is also a severe shortage of oxygen in Punjab amidst a spurt in cases of Covid-19.
