The death toll went down marginally with 116 people succumbing to Covid-19 as opposed to 121 people on Tuesday.
The State has reported 6123 deaths due to the infection so far, the state bulletin confirmed.
Tamil Nadu state capital Chennai reported over 1000 cases for the sixth day in a row.
The city is the worst affected district in the State with 1186 people testing positive on Wednesday.
Th Greater Chennai Corporation said that after the e-pass norms were relaxed by the TN government, the civic body has approved 13,826 e-pass applications and only 27 requests were rejected from August 18-19.
This is in contrast to 82,401 e-passes being accepted while 45,085 applications were rejected from August 1 to August 18.
It had maintained a six-day streak last week where the number of cases remained under the 1000 mark, providing some relief.
Among the other districts, Chengalpet, Coimbatore and Thiruvallur saw over 300 cases while Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Salem and Theni reported more than 200 cases.
As many as 65,592 people were tested for the infection on Wednesday. Testing touched an all-time high on Sunday with 70450 being tested for Covid-19.
The number of recoveries stood at 6384, taking the total count of recoveries to 296,171 in the state.
