Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has stepped into Hindi cinema with ‘Khamoshi’, does not need any identification today. Born on 24 February 1963 in a Gujarati family, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is counted among the most successful directors of today’s time. For many superhit films including Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Black, Ramleela, Padmavat, Bajirao Mastani, Guzaarish and many more, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s name is taken very widely. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has seen difficulties in his childhood. His mother, Leela Bhansali used to run the expenses of their house after sewing. Sanjay Leela Bhansali made his debut in 1996 with Khamoshi-The Musical. The film was not commercially successful, but it was well-received by the critics. Then we have Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Black, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Padmavat among his list of blockbuster films. Bajirao Mastani and Padmavat are among the highest-grossing films of all times in Indian films.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been awarded the National Award including several awards. Devdas, released in 2002, has been nominated for BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language. The film Black has received many awards. Among them are the Critics Award for Best Film including Best Director Award, Best Film Award. Sanjay’s home production film Mary Kom has been awarded the National Film Award. He received the National Film Award for Best Direction, Filmfare Award for Best Director and Best Film for Bajirao Mastani. At the same time, Sanjay has been honoured with the National Film Award for Best Music Direction and the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for Padmavat. In 2015, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri Award.
