Chennai: C Selvam, DMK functionary at Madipakkam in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, was hacked to death by unknown persons late on Tuesday night. He was allegedly murdered over seat allocation for the upcoming local body polls.
As many as six people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing of Selvam.
On Tuesday, around 8:45 pm, 48-year-old C Selvan, who was DMK secretary of 188th ward – Rajaji Nagar, Madipakkam, came out of his party office when a few bike-borne miscreants attacked him and fled from the spot.
Later, a few people saw him lying on the street bleeding and they immediately informed the police. A team of cops arrive at the spot and rushed him to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead. His body was sent for postmortem to Chromepet government hospital.
Police are checking CCTV camera footage to establish the identity of the assailants.
As per reports, police informed that preliminary inquiries revealed that both Selvam and his wife Shameena were allotted seats in the coming local body polls which could have led to the murder.
Police is also seeing the angle of possible enmity in the real estate business run by Selvam. A complaint has been registered and investigation is underway.
