Cardiac health: 5 Tips to keep your heart healthy

NEW DELHI (DIVYA SAINI): Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death. If you want to take care of your cardiac health you need to eat healthy, get active, quit smoking and alcohol, manage stress and control your blood pressure. If you don’t have a healthy lifestyle you have higher chances of heart strokes. To have a good heart health you need to take care of following things

1. Cut down on salt

Too much salt is the main cause of blood pressure which is a root cause of heart diseases. If you have a diet high in salt, you might have higher risk of suffering from heart disease or stroke. Also avoid processed foods

2. Cut down on sugar

Sugar is considered poison for health, which can raise your blood pressure and lead to diabetes and further can affect your heart health. If you crave a lot for sugar, you can simply opt jiggery and honey instead of sugary puddings and cakes.

3. Limit the intake of saturated fat

Saturated fat can increase your cholesterol level that can affect your heart health. So avoid foods such as butter, ghee, margarine, fatty meats, dairy fats and processed foods such as pies, pastries and cakes to keep your heart healthy and young

4. Fill up your plate with fruits and veggies

Fill your plates with lots of fruits and vegetables as fruits are loaded with healthy nutrients and vitamins that are great to lower the blood pressure and maintain heart health. Some fruits and veggies  are rich in soluble fiber and citrus that is great for your overall health.

5. Eat fish

Fish such as pilchards, sardines, mackerel, salmon are great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which is magical ingredient for your heart as it helps to improve your cholesterol levels. But if you don’t eat non vegetarian you can have walnuts, spinach, flaxseeds, soya and pumpkin seeds for healthy heart.
