Amritsar: A BSF soldier from Maharashtra shot and killed around five of his comrades at the BSF headquarters in Amritsar, Punjab on Sunday. It is being reported that 6 other jawans have been injured in the incident.
According to reports, a jawan of the 144th Battalion of the BSF shot dead 5 other jawans. The jawan also shot himself after the incident. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The accused has been identified as Constable SK Satteppa from Maharashtra. It has been alleged that he took the extreme step as he was being made to perform more duty than others. He was reportedly disturbed at the treatment being meted out to him.
It is being reported that Satteppa had been continuously on duty for the last few days. He was very upset about this. He had an argument with a senior BSF official on Saturday, but got no relief on Sunday morning.
Satteppa was posted on duty on Sunday as well. Angered, he started firing with his service rifle. Hearing the sound of firing, the other jawans started running here and there. About 9 people were shot. Six jawans are said to be injured. Died and others succumbed to their injuries while being taken to hospital.
He also shot himself
Satteppa also shot himself after the incident. The injured have been rushed to a private hospital. Police have started preparations to retrieve the bodies for postmortem. The relatives of those killed and injured in thi incident are being informed.
