BJP trying to destabilise Jharkhand govt through central agencies: Hemant Soren
New Delhi: Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren on Sunday said that the BJP and the central government are trying to destabilise Jharkhand through central agencies. Soren was in Delhi to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi over the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Jharkhand. Soren spoke to mediapersons on Sunday about his case and the recent ED raids. In response to a question by ET, he said he was confident of coming out clean and that truth would prevail.

“They are accusing me of a scam or corruption in a 0.88 acres stone chips mine. Think about it. If the chief minister had to do a scam, will he do a scam like this,” Soren told ET. “There is a justice system in this country and no matter what they try to do, truth will prevail and I will come out with flying colours.”

Soren accused the BJP government at the Centre and BJP state unit of not being able to accept his victory and said that they were doing everything possible to defame him.

“The ED has started enquiry into an MGNREGA case which is from 2008 and they are trying to link it to the CM’s office somehow. Officers are being threatened and there is an attempt to create a fear among the state government officials,” he told ET. “They won’t succeed in it because we have people’s support and I am running a government for the people of Jharkhand. Whether in power or not, I live with the confidence of being honest to the people and will fight back strongly.”

He accused the union government of blocking funds due to the states. “The Centre owes ₹1,36 lakh crore to Jharkhand. Our MNREGA payments are not cleared. The central government cuts excise duty on petrol and diesel and asks us to reduce VAT. They never ask to raise VAT when they raise their excise duty,” he added. “We also have to manage our state, especially in this post-pandemic time.”

Soren is facing an EC notice in the office of profit case and he was to have a hearing on May 31. However, that has been extended to June 14.
