Patna (Bihar): An Assistant Sub-Inspector died and at least 10 policemen got injured after a mob agitated over a custodial death set the police station building on fire in Bettiah area of Bihar’s West Champaran district on Saturday.
According to SP Upendra Nath Sharma, several vehicles parked in the police station were destroyed. Also, the official vehicle of circle inspector of Mainatand town was also set on fire, Free Press Journal reported.
The report stated that police resorted to 15 rounds of firing.
Earlier, the police seized vehicle of a person named Anirudh Kumar on the complaint of local block development officer Meena Sharma and circle officer Manish Kumar. He was later taken to the police station.
As per the report, after a couple of hours, Anirudh’s body was put outside the police station premises. Soon after, villagers reached the police station and alleged that he was brutally beaten in the police lockup and blamed his death on the policemen.
