Kolkata: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Wednesday inaugurated the launch of Phase-3 trial of Covaxin at ICMR-NICED Kolkata. He commended the country’s leadership for “effectively dealing with the COVID-19 epidemic”.

Dhankhar said that NICED has been selected as one of the two dozen centers in the country, indigenously developed coronavirus vaccine for Phase III testing, and expressed confidence that the process would be conducted smoothly.

He said, “India has performed admirably (when it comes to dealing with the epidemic). All this is due to the visionary leadership of the country.”

The Governor further said that the Ayushman Bharat Scheme of the Center, which provides free healthcare, has given success to many people in the midst of crisis.

In particular, the scheme has not yet been implemented in West Bengal.

The TMC government said in September that it would implement the scheme if funds for the program were sent through the state administration, contrary to the provisions set by the Center.
