Asian Champions Trophy: India to lock horns with Bangladesh in second fixture

Dhaka: World no. 3, the highest ranked team of the tournament, India is set to lock horns with Bangladesh in the second fixture of the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy in Dhaka. 

Defending champions started their campaign playing a draw against South Korea by 2-2, and today, India will surely look forward to registering their first win of the tournament. 

This is the first tournament that the team is playing after their historic bronze medal win in Tokyo Olympics. India is being led by midfielder Manpreet Singh while defender Harman Preet Singh is the vice-captain. 

The Asian Champions Trophy features the top six teams from the continent, and after the round-robin format, the four top-scoring team fight off in the semi-finals. This year India, Pakistan, South Korea, Japan, and hosts Bangladesh will contest for the title at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka.

The finals of the last edition were played in 2018 with the final match being soiled by rains and India-Pakistan both being the winners.

Malaysia, who won bronze in all five editions, pulled out of the tournament after a player contracted COVID-19.
