Andhra Pradesh: Fake policeman rapes 2 minor girls who were celebrating New Year with male friends

Amaravati: New Year 2022 celebrations turned bitter for two minor girls of Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh. The girls, who are intermediate first-year students at a government residential college, were raped by a 35-year-old who posed as a policeman when they had gone to Ravada village with their male friends to spend the first day of the year.

The accused, identified as V Rambabu, has been arrested by police on Sunday after the victims along with their teachers and warden filed a case in the Kurupam police station on Saturday night.

Police informed that the two minor girls along with their male friends had gone to a water body in Ravada village to celebrate the New Year day. Seeing the innocent children, Rambabu laid a trap and went near them on his bike, posing as policeman. He then clicked the photos of the boys and girls and began threatening to send the clicks to their teachers and parents as well as upload them on social media.

He had somewhat managed to instil fear among the children and taking advantage of the situation, he asked the boys to leave the place and took the girls to an oil palm orchard nearby where he raped them.

Later, he warned the girls to not to tell about the sexual assault on them to others and threatened to upload the heinous act on social media if they say about it to anyone.

Traumatised by the torture, the girls reached their hostel and narrated the entire incident to their warden. The victims were sent for medical tests.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against Rambabu under Section 376 and 506 of IPC and relevant sections of POCSO Act. A report by Times of India quoted Vizianagaram police chief Deepika M Patil saying that a chargesheet in the case will be filed in a week.

Rambabu has been repeated offender and has been involved in at least 14 cases in the past.
