New Delhi: American Music Awards, also known as AMAs 2020, had one of a kind starry night with the best of the music maestros around the world gracing the event. Singer Taylor Swift, Cardi B, Dan + Shay and boyband BTS bagged some of the most notable awards of the night.
Taylor Swift, who beat Bieber, Post Malone and Rodd Rich to win her third consecutive artist of the year prize, won three awards in total, including favourite music video and favourite pop/rock female artist.
However, she couldn’t attend the event and in a video message said that she is re-recording all of her old music. “The reason I’m not there tonight is I’m actually re-recording all of my old music in the studio where we originally recorded it. So it’s been amazing. And I can’t wait for you to hear it,” the pop-star said.
Duo Dan + Shay took home two awards — collaboration of the year and favourite song- country categories — for their song “10,000 Hours” which also featured Justin Bieber. They were also nominated for top duo/group category.
Rapper Doja cat was another name to win big as he bagged new artist of the year ew artist of the year and favourite female artist – soul/R&B.
K-pop boyband BTS, who were the closing act of the ceremony, won two AMAs for favourite social artist and favourite duo/group – pop/rock.
“WAP” by Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion, won the title of favourite song – rap/hip hop while Dua Lipa won the award for favourite song – pop/rock for her song “Don’t Start Now”.
Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Jonas Brothers and Twenty One Pilots were among others who took top awards home.
Meanwhile, the event saw performances from Megan Thee Stallion, Katy Perry, Billie Eilish, Jennifer Lopez, Maluma, Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes, among others.
