Ajit Doval’s security beefed after arrested Jaish terrorist reveals plans of targeting NSA chief



New Delhi: Security has been beefed up at the office and residence of National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval following an revelation by an arrested Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant. According to people familiar with the matter, he had recited the Sardar Patel Bhavan and other high value targets in the capital Delhi on the instructions of his Pakistan-based handler.

Malik, who hails from Shopian in Kashmir, was arrested on 6 February. He told the investigating agencies that this Reiki was done last year. Malik recorded a video of Doval’s office and other areas in Srinagar. He sent this video to his bosses in Pakistan, security agencies have been alerted as soon as they get information.

Doval has been a target of terrorist groups operating from Pakistan since the Uri surgical strike of 2016 and the Balakot attack in 2019. The potential threat of the NSA has been conveyed to security agencies and the Union Home Ministry.

Officials in Delhi and Srinagar said a detailed video of Doval’s office was revealed during interrogation of Jeop operative Hidayat-Ullah Malik, a resident of Shopian, who was arrested on 6 February.

She flew in an IndiGo flight from Srinagar to New Delhi on 24 May 2019 to record a video of the NSA’s office, including the security detail of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Whose video it sent to its Pakistan-based handler via WhatsApp. It described Handler as a “doctor”.

After this Malik then returned to Kashmir in a bus. He also admitted during interrogation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police that he had committed Reiki to the Samba Sector border area in the summer of 2019 along with Sameer Ahmed Dar, who was arrested on January 21, 2020 for his involvement in the Pulwama terror attack.

Malik also provided a Hyundai Santro car for a suicide attack in May 2020. He admitted that he and three other Jaish terrorists – Irfan Chumb, Umar Mushtaq and Rais Mustafa – had looted Rs 60 lakh from Jammu and Kashmir Bank from a cash van in Shopian in November 2020.

The Jaish operator also revealed the names, code names and phone numbers of its 10 contacts in Pakistan, including handlers. Jammu and Kashmir Police has given details to the security agencies. Two of his contacts were later killed in Shopian and Sopore.

Officials said Malik elaborated that he joined the Hizbul Mujahideen on July 31, 2019. Prior to that worked as a ground worker for Jaish. Transferred to Jaish in February 2020 and then formed a front group in August that year.

NSA Doval has had an old rivalry with Jaish chief Masood Azhar. He interrogated Azhar after his arrest in India as Joint Director, Intelligence Bureau in 1994 and also transported him to Kandahar Airport after the 1999 IC-88 hijacking.
