Mumbai: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar’s younger brother, Ehsaan Khan, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, died on Wednesday at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. He was 90.
Faisal Farooqui, who is a close family friend of Dilip Kumar, announced the news through actor’s verified Twitter account. “Dilip Saab’s youngest brother Ehsan Khan passed away few hours ago. Earlier, youngest brother Aslam had passed away. We are from God and to Him we return. Please pray for them. Posted by Faisal Farooqui on behalf of Dilip Kumar,” he said in a tweet.
According to the Lilavati Hospital, Ehsaan was also suffering from various diseases including heart disease, hypertension, and Alzheimer.
Earlier, on August 21, the thespian’s youngest brother, Aslam Khan, 88, succumbed to covid-19 at the same hospital. He also had pneumonia with diabetes, hypertension and heart disease, the hospital staff had informed.
Ehsaan Khan and Aslam Khan, both, had tested positive for covid-19 on August 15, following which they were rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital for treatment.
In March, after the covid-19 pandemic outgrew across the country, Dilip Kumar had informed that he and his wife, actress Saira Banu, were practicing “complete isolation”.
”I am under complete isolation and quarantine due to the #CoronavirusOutbreak. Saira has left nothing to chance, ensuring I do not catch any infection,” the 98-year-old actor had tweeted a few days before the nationwide lockdown was enforced in the same light.
The actor also urged his fans and followers to stay safe amid the outbreak, saying it “transcends all boundaries and borders”. He had also appealed everyone to follow “guidelines issued by health departments”.
