83 gets ‘underwhelming’ start, mints just Rs on Day 1

New Delhi:

Despite garnering praises from all quarters, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone-starrer ’83’ couldn’t make it big at the box office, grossing only ₹ 12.64 cr on Day 1, as per the figures shared by film critic Taran Aadarsh.

“#83TheFilm is underwhelming on Day 1… Excellent at premium multiplexes, ordinary in Tier-2 cities, dull in mass pockets… #Christmas holiday should ensure jump in biz… #PVR, #INOX, #Cinepolis [Day 2] already showing *big gains*… Fri ₹ 12.64 cr. #India biz. ALL VERSIONS,” he wrote.

The film’s collection is also affected by ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, which is ruling the box office with collections of around Rs 150 crore in eight days of its release. The numbers, however, are expected to see a rise during the Christmas weekend. The New Year cheer may also bring moviegoers to theatres, adding to the benefit of the film.

Kabir Khan’s directorial ’83’, which revolves around India’s historical 1983 Cricket World Cup win, stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, who was the captain of the Indian team in 1983.

Interestingly, Ranveer’s wife– actor Deepika Padukone will be seen playing Romi, Kapil Dev’s wife in ’83’. The film also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, R Badree, and Pankaj Tripathi.
