2022 UP polls: Akhilesh Yadav dials Sharad Pawar, asks for 3-4 dates for campaigning, says Nawab Malik

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik on Thursday informed that NCP chief Sharad Pawar held a telephonic conversation with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and was asked for dates to visit Uttar Pradesh for campaigning ahead of Assembly elections in the state.

“Akhilesh Yadav held a conversation with Sharad Pawar over the phone. He has asked for three-four dates from him for programmes. Pawar will definitely go there. Even I have been told by the party to go the respective places from where we are contesting. We will meet Akhilesh Yadav,” Malik said.

This comes after Sharad Pawar on Tuesday announced that his party will contest the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in alliance with Samajwadi Party.

“In Uttar Pradesh, we are going to contest elections with Samajwadi Party and other smaller parties… The people of Uttar Pradesh are looking for change. We will surely see the change in the State,” Pawar said.

“Communal polarisation is being done in Uttar Pradesh, ahead of Assembly elections. The people of Uttar Pradesh will give a befitting reply to this,” he added.

Earlier, the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the Assembly election in Uttar Pradesh. The first phase of polling will be held on February 10, followed by second phase on February 14, third phase on February 20, fourth phase on February 23, fifth phase on February 27, sixth phase on March 3 and seventh phase on March 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
